California Bans 24 Toxic Chemicals in Cosmetics

On September 30th, 2020, Californian Governor, Gavin Newsom, signed California Assembly Law 2762 (AB 2762) banning a series of dangerous ingredients  in cosmetics, making California the first US state to ban certain hazardous ingredients – such as formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, per- and polyfluoralkyl substances (PFAS) and mercury – from cosmetics and personal care products.

The law will enter into force on January 1st, 2025. These products were already prohibited for cosmetics and personal care products use in the EU.
