ECHA announces that by the end of 2021,companies using Chromium Trioxide in plating and surface treatment must inform theAgency on how their workers are exposed to the substance. This information willhelp them protect their workers and minimize carcinogenic exposure.
This substance of very high concern wasplaced on the Authorisation List in 2013 and its use has needed specificauthorization in the EU since 2017. The notifications from 1026 sites acrossEurope submitted by May 2021 confirms that Chromium Trioxide is still widelyused. Knowing how the workers are exposed will help EU authorities to carry outjoint enforcement on functional chrome plating and surface treatment.
