Nanomaterials in Waste Streams

Nanomaterials in Waste Streams

Monday, November 22, 2021

📢 A new report from the European Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON) shows that the limited data available on the amount of waste streams containing nanomaterials in the EU creates some challenges. Nevertheless, the existing public databases remain highly valuable for waste operators, regulatory bodies, scientists, or potential consumers.

Still according to the report, existing research demonstrates that incineration and wastewater treatment are highly efficient at limiting emissions of some of the most used nanomaterials to the environment. Substantial progress has also been made in characterising and measuring nanomaterials, which should help generate more accurate data on nanomaterial waste in the future.
