On October 28th, ECHA announced the launch of the SCIP database, companies may now submit data on substances of very high concern (#SVHCs) in their articles. According to the WasteFrameworkDirective companies must submit their data as of 5 January 2021 while consumers and waste operators will be able to access and use the data as of February 2021.
According to ECHA’s Executive Director, Bjorn Hansen — who already called on the industry to start submitting data —, the database is “key for a better circular economy” as the knowledge we get from it will help protect workers, citizens and the environment and also encourage industry to replace #hazardouschemicals with safer chemicals.
ECHA emphasises that, thanks to the stakeholders and IT user group involved in the development process, the SCIP database includes functions that are based on industry feedback to ease the workload for companies, such as automation features for notifications submission.
A webinar is planned on 19 November to help you prepare to submit a SCIP notification. (https://echa.europa.eu/nl/-/get-ready-to-submit-your-scip-notification)
