UK REACH Submission Deadlines: Extension Announced by UK Government

The UK Government has announced an extension of key UK REACH submission deadlines following its consultation response published on December 22nd. The change gives businesses more time to comply with the UK REACH framework. It also ensures essential chemical safety data becomes available on time.

In the consultation, industry stakeholders preferred Option 2, which would have kept a two-year gap between registration deadlines. Despite this, ministers chose Option 1 as the most proportionate approach.

According to the Government, the additional time under Option 1 will reduce regulatory burdens for small and micro businesses. Downstreams users will aslo benefit. At the same time, it ensures that critical chemical safety data is submitted in a timely and orderly manner.

Subject to the consent of the Scottish and Welsh Ministers, legislation will be introduced to move the existing UK REACH submission deadlines from 27 October 2026, 2028, and 2030 to:

The revised legislation is expected in 2026, following the usual parliamentary process.

Additionally, the Government plans to align statutory compliance check dates under Article 41(5) with the new submission deadlines. This alignment ensures compliance checks occur only after the relevant data is submitted, promoting fairness for registrants and supporting effective regulatory oversight.
